About Dan Youngblood
Dan Youngblood, born in 1967, had a lifelong passion that revolved around the wrestling, which he discovered as a young boy.
In 1985, Dan's dedication and hard work paid off as he proudly graduated from Old Mill Senior High as a State Champion wrestler. This achievement became a cornerstone of his wrestling journey.
For most of his adult life, Dan became a dedicated wrestling coach. Young wrestlers who had the privilege of being mentored by Dan fondly remember him, crediting him not only for making them formidable athletes but also for imparting invaluable life lessons.
To many of his students, Dan was more than just a coach; he was often affectionately referred to as a "second father." His influence extended beyond the mat, shaping the lives of countless young wrestlers.
Over a 25 year period, Dan coached at various schools, including Broadneck, Glen Burnie, Archbishop Spaulding, Old Mill, Mount Saint Joe (MSJ), St. Paul’s, and most recently at the MSJ youth program.
During his tenure at MSJ, Dan achieved the highest levels of success for his wrestlers, leading them to claim prestigious titles such as MIS, MIAA, and National Prep championships.
Dan's journey took him back to his alma mater, Old Mill, a renowned wrestling powerhouse in Maryland. At Old Mill, he propelled the program to new heights with the help of Matt Eveleth, securing multiple county, region, and state titles, both for individual wrestlers and as a unified team.
Many of Dan's wrestlers went on to represent prestigious universities such as the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, Cornell, Stanford, and Bucknell. His joy stemmed from helping these aspiring athletes find success through unwavering dedication and perseverance.
However, it was not only his prowess on the wrestling mat that defined Dan. Those who knew him best understood that he instilled in his students a mindset geared toward success not just in wrestling but in all aspects of life.
Dan cherished the opportunity to mold his wrestlers into outstanding members of society, leaving behind an enduring legacy of integrity, resilience, and achievement.
Dan passed away in a boating accident in May 2018.
About Matt Eveleth
Born in 1984, Matt Eveleth emerged as a wrestling prodigy, leaving an enduring mark on the wrestling community in the state of Maryland. Matt began wrestling as a young boy, following in the footsteps of his older brothers, Brian and Jeff, both state title winners. Matt's wrestling prowess shone brightest as he became a three-time state champion, the first in the Chesapeake High School's history.
As a sophomore, Matt went undefeated with a school-record 24 pins, securing his first state title and setting the stage for an illustrious career. Despite a heartbreaking defeat in his freshman year, Matt's determination only intensified, culminating in a dominant 4-3 win over his previous nemesis in the state finals. His senior year was a triumph, finishing with a 35-1 record, including 22 pins, and solidifying his status as Chesapeake's wrestling legend.
The Eveleth wrestling legacy extended beyond high school. Brian Sr., Matt's father and a former county champion wrestler, watched with pride as his sons, Brian Jr., Jeff, and Matt, achieved wrestling excellence. Brian Jr. continued the tradition, becoming an All-American at the University of Pennsylvania, while Jeff and Matt graduated in 2005 and 2007, respectively.
Outside the wrestling arena, Matt's infectious positivity, charismatic personality, and big smile endeared him to all who knew him. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2007, where he not only contributed to the wrestling team's success but also earned the title of EIWA champion. In his professional life, he excelled as a cybersecurity sales consultant for Atos, earning top sales honors in 2020.
Following his college graduation, Matt not only coached with, but also worked with Dan in his business. Matt and Dan became constant coaching partners throughout the rest of both men's lives.
Matt's passion for coaching and dedication to community service inspire our commitment to creating positive change. We strive to carry forward Matt's legacy by supporting initiatives that align with his values—integrity, perseverance, and a deep love for community.
Matthew Tobey Eveleth lived life at full throttle, embracing every moment with enthusiasm, resilience, and a love for people. His story serves as a beacon of inspiration for us all, a reminder to approach life with unwavering positivity and a commitment to making a difference.
Matt passed away in 2021 after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer.
